Germany: Prominent Russian Opera Conductor Fired for Not Saying Anything About Ukraine

The Russian chessmaster who said he supported the war was the first person I’ve seen alienated from a completely apolitical organization because of a statement about Russia.

Now, this conductor is fired from everything after being given a deadline to denounce his country.

He never even made any comment!

(Also, the same happened to one of the singers.)

RT:

Prominent Russian conductor Valery Gergiev and soprano legend Anna Netrebko were removed from their positions by German arts organizations on Tuesday in response to Moscow’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Gergiev, who had been serving as the chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic, was dismissed by the city’s mayor, Dieter Reiter, after he failed to meet a Monday deadline to denounce Russian President Vladimir Putin and the conflict.

The removal comes three years before his contract was set to expire and marks the latest setback for Gergiev, who has faced backlash over his silence on the war.

The Bavarian State Opera similarly announced that it was canceling bookings with Gergiev for similar reasons. This comes after the conductor was forced to resign his position as the honorary president of the Edinburgh International Festival effective immediately.

Gergiev’s management company had already announced that it was severing ties with the musical professional, having represented him since December 2020. In a statement, Marcus Felsner, who owned the management company, claimed the recent actions of the Russian regime made it “impossible” for them to “defend the interests of Maestro Gergiev.”

Leftists always used to go around talking about “McCarthyism” and “witch hunts.”

But this is way beyond that.

There isn’t even an ideology in play here. Putin doesn’t have any ideologies. McCarthy assumed a conspiracy was afoot to implement communism in America (we saw where that went, by the way). But there is no conspiracy to implement… support for the re-annexation of the Ukraine.

This is just punitive.

And the ask is literally to denounce the country – or at least that’s how it’s worked historically. Americans were sanctioned and even arrested for protesting World Wars I & II. It was considered an attack on the country. There were even attacks on anti-war protests in America during Vietnam, which was not an existential war.

The West is officially in the process of setting a standard wherein anyone who is ethnically Russian and who refuses to denounce Russia as evil is banned from society.

This definitely did not happen during the Cold War.

You were not even required to denounce communism, which is why the McCarthy hearings were set up in the first place – to try to root out secret communists.

This is getting really wacky, and everything is pointing to it getting a lot worse.
