New FBI Scheme to Investigate Bitcoin After Canada Convoy Switches to Bitcoin

The Daily Stormer lost about 80% of its donations when it switched to Monero only.

We did that because Bitcoin is traceable, and Monero is not. We did that for you.

Because of this.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Thursday the creation of the FBI’s ‘Virtual Asset Exploitation Unit’. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, who also named prosecutor Eun Young Choi as the first director of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), said that the new unit would dedicate itself to analyzing virtual transactions and seizing currency involved in crime.

“This FBI unit will combine cryptocurrency experts into one nerve center,” Monaco said during a speech at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Thursday. “We are issuing a clear warning to criminals who use cryptocurrency to fuel their schemes.”

Both the new FBI unit and the NCET have a broad remit to investigate any crypto-related crimes. Monaco told her audience in Munich that prosecutors and investigators will use “all available tools” to disrupt cyberattacks before they happen, and the DOJ stated that it will “coordinate with domestic and international law enforcement partners, regulatory agencies and private industry to combat the criminal use of digital assets.”

Bitcoin transactions can’t be stopped, but they can be traced. Sort of. I mean, they can at least try to link an address to a person.

Most of these people in the convoy are probably not super tech savvy, so they are probably using addresses owned by exchanges (rather than owning their own wallets), so now they are trying to cockblock them.

I doubt exchanges outside of Canada will cooperate, but then they will just stop doing business in Canada.

The authorities in Canada have told cryptocurrency exchanges to cease transactions with addresses they said were linked to the ongoing ‘Freedom Convoy’ by the anti-vaccine mandate truckers.

The order from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) began circulating on social media early on Wednesday, with the local media saying that its authenticity has been confirmed. Several major Canadian crypto exchanges also acknowledged receiving the relevant guidance and the list from law enforcement.

A total of 34 electronic wallets have been blacklisted, including 29 Bitcoin addresses, and several addresses in other crypto currencies like Ethereum, Litecoin, and others.

The order reportedly stated that “any information about a transaction or proposed transaction in respect of these address(es), is to be disclosed immediately to the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.”

The backers of the convoy have already donated 21 BTC worth around $1 million dollars to the cause.

There are still ways to transfer Bitcoin to the convoy. They can own their own wallets, and no one can stop that. The only way a Bitcoin address can be stopped is if you are using someone else’s Bitcoin address – i.e., Coinbase, which is the worst and will probably cooperate with Canada.

If I were them, I would switch to Monero, and use wallets that they own. Because that can’t be traced.

This is a good time to remind you: we switched to Monero to keep YOU safe, and YOU stopped donating. So please, consider that we were right about an FBI Bitcoin tracking program, and then consider the fact that you should be appreciative of that and send us money.

Seriously.

We are running at a loss here from old Bitcoin donations.

This is not a good situation for the site, particularly when we just got our domain jacked.

Just to be clear – I still think people should personally own Bitcoin. That is not financial advice.

But for this kind of transfer – whether it be to me or to the Truckers – you should exchange the Bitcoin for Monero before sending it. This is very easy to do.

Overall, this Canada crackdown on banking is bullish for Bitcoin (and all other legitimate crypto) – strongly – as it proves the necessity.

Also – the feds aren’t going to do shit. There is too much institutional backing at this point for a ban, and if they regulate it, that is bullish.
