Three men have been arraigned and are in police custody for the slaying of 79-year-old Jimmie Allison inside his Flint home on South Meade Street Friday night, Aug. 8.
Marquise Antwan Love, 19, Keanu Alexander Brown, 24, and Takais Armon Brown, 28, were all arraigned Wednesday, Aug. 13, in 68th District Court, said Flint Police Det. Sgt. Ronald Dixon. The men have all been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and felony firearm.
Flint police responded to the shooting at Allison’s home in the 500 block of South Meade Street Friday around 11:30 p.m. Allison was found dead inside from an apparent gunshot wound.
“Within hours of the investigation we were able to locate and secure three suspects.” Dixon said.
Prosecutors say one of the defendants is the son of Allison’s gardener, but did not say which one.
Landscaping the backyard of the home was Allison’s “pride and joy,” according to friends and family. That was where he spent much of his time working and relaxing, they said.
Dixon, who is part of the Major Crimes Bureau at the Flint Police Department and in charge of the investigation, said while police have made an arrest, the investigation is still ongoing.
“As with anything, just because we have made arrests, the investigation is ongoing…there may still be leads and things we need to follow up on,” Dixon said. “There were eyewitness statements, although brief, we were able to put together with other witness statements and we were able to locate possible suspects.”
The three suspects were arrested Saturday, Aug. 9. Flint Police Capt. Collin Birnie said it was the hard work of officers that lead to the quick arrest.
“This wasn’t a case of pure luck,” Birnie said. “There were a lot of facts and specific facts that we can’t go over right now due to it being an ongoing investigation. It was not just a case of luck, it was exemplary police work and it led to three arrests.”
