Three people are now charged in the Shooting death of 76-year-old Dorothy Hendrix. Hendrix was shot Sunday morning outside of her Anderson County home.
Steven Benard Hagood, 33, Tereba Racquel Geer, 26, and Bradacious Terrell Galloway, 23 are all charged in the murder. Hagood was hospitalized after being shot in the arm during the incident. Deputies questioned him in the hospital.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore cited heavy bleeding as the cause of Hendrix’s death after an autopsy was conducted on Sunday morning. Shore stated that Hendrix was struck by two bullets in the arm and in the abdomen, neither were vital organs, however, a damaged artery contributed to the heavy bleeding.
Hendrix was killed outside of her home’s carport on Rayben Road around 1 a.m. on Saturday. According to her family members, Hendrix often returned home in the early morning hours because of her job. She also was often carrying large sums of money. As part of the ongoing investigation into her death the Sheriff’s office served a search warrant at 3454 Cinema Center in Anderson, where she worked. The search led to the seizure of 15 illegal gambling machines.
Investigators now believe the armed robbery and shooting stemmed from Hendrix’s possession of the proceeds from gambling at the Cinema Center location.
7 On Your Side spoke with family and neighbors at Hendrix’s home Saturday. One man who is related to Hendrix and also lives next door said he heard shots and came running outside.
One family member said he held her hand as she passed away.
Her brother Ronnie Lollis came to see her home Saturday afternoon. He said he called his sister “Dot” and can’t imagine anyone wanting to harm a woman who would give up anything to help others.
“She gave me a ten dollar bill and I said what this for? She said it’s a tip from your sister brother,” said Lollis.
