Jurors decided the fate of the Fort Bliss soldier who repeatedly stabbed a military wife last fall.

Corey Bernard Moss was sentenced to 30 years in prison with a parole possibility after 15 years. He was fined $10,000 and Fort Bliss officials say he may be dishonorably discharged from the military.

As KFOX14 previously reported, Moss pleaded guilty Monday to a first-degree felony charge of burglary of habitation.

He admitted to breaking into the home of Rachel Poole and stabbing her several times while she was nine months pregnant because he didn’t want to pay back money he owed her.

The defense called their final witness to the stand Wednesday morning. It was a forensic psychologist who gave Moss several evaluations.

He testified that based on those screenings, Moss is considered high risk for committing another violent crime.

But he also said that risk would slowly lower as Moss became older and matured.

During closing arguments the defense asked the jury for leniency.

They said that Moss could be rehabilitated over time with counseling and anger management because he didn’t have any previous violent history.

The prosecution asked the jury to give Moss a life sentence, and prosecutors showed the jury the weapon Moss used in the attack, saying he nearly killed Poole and her unborn child.

Prosecutor William Prasher said Moss shouldn’t be allowed back into society. He told the jury, “The defense says there’s two victims in this case? There’s three. One stab lower than the chest and Rachel’s sweet little girl isn’t alive. He didn’t want to pay Rachel $3,000. That’s the defense’s excuse for attempting double murder? Are you kidding me?”
