Four Black Thieves Arrested for Murder of White Man in Parking Lot

Phillip Lee Burgess was murdered by four Black robbers.

Police on Friday identified a man whose body was found early this week and named four suspects arrested on murder charges in his killing.

Wadesboro police arrested Quentin Cornelius Teal, 22, of Wadesboro; Demetrian Alphonso Teal, 19, also of Wadesboro; James Edward Henderson Jr., 19, of Cheraw, South Carolina; and Reginald Lamont Jenkins II, 19, of Morven, on Friday. The WPD and the State Bureau of Investigation identified the suspects’ motive as robbery.

The men were charged with the felony first-degree murder of Phillip Lee Burgess, whose body was found in the parking lot of the Hair Shack, located on U.S. 74 East, just after midnight on Monday.

All four suspects are being held without bond in the Anson County Jail.

In addition to the murder charge, Henderson is charged with hit and run/leaving the scene with property damage and resisting a public officer, according to Anson County jail records. Those charges have a combined secured bond of $2,500.

Wadesboro Police Chief Thedis Spencer expressed sympathy to Burgess’ family and thanked the SBI for its investigative help in a Friday statement.
