Police were looking for man who shot and wounded an elderly woman during an apparent home invasion robbery in Oakland Tuesday morning.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at a home on the 4100 block of Laguna Ave. in the city’s Lincoln Highlands/Diamon neighborhood, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.
When police arrived, they found an 81-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Police said an unknown male suspect forced entry into the residence, shot the victim, and fled the scene. He was described as an African American in his 20s, 6 feet tall, 175 pounds, wearing all dark clothing.
Two louds bangs – a door kicked in and a gun being fired – startled next-door neighbor Garrick Chinn “I thought someone was throwing a new phone book at my door.”
Chinn said the last thing he heard was the screeching of tires of a car speeding away.
News of the home invasion was not surprising to another neighbor. “We get a lot of kick-ins in the neighborhood,” said Buzz Brown. “They come up from the flats into the hills cause they know it’s an easy target.”
Police told KPIX 5 the bullet went through the victim’s shoulder, through her wall, through a fence, hit the neighbor’s house and fell to the ground.
