A 6-year-old boy was stabbed to death on early Monday morning after a man allegedly broke into his family’s Versailles, Kentucky, home and attacked him while he was sleeping, PEOPLE confirms.
Ronald Exantus, 32, is charged with murder and burglary for allegedly killing kindergartner Logan Tipton as he slept. He is being held at the Woodford County Detention Center on $1 million bail.
According to an arrest report obtained by WKYT, Exantus broke into the home, grabbed a “large kitchen knife,” and then walked upstairs to the Logan’s bedroom, where he stabbed the boy multiple times in the head.
Four other children were sleeping in the room at the time of the attack, the report said. Logan’s 11-year-old sister allegedly woke up to the sound of the struggle and threw herself on Exantus to keep him from stabbing anyone else. She then screamed for help.
Logan’s father rushed into the room and allegedly detained Exantus until police arrived at the scene. The family told authorities that they did not know Exantus, who lives in Indianapolis, nearly 200 miles north of Versailles.
