Afghanistan is a Disaster

After nearly 16 years of American military occupation in Afghanistan, the country is worse off than ever.

American military forces have been occupying Afghanistan for nearly 16 years now. An untold amount of resources have been poured into this effort and things are worse than ever.

Just the other day news broke of an Afghan soldier turning his weapon on a group of US Army Rangers. He ended up killing three of them.

AFP:

An Afghan commando who opened fire on American troops killed three of them and wounded another, US and Afghan officials said, in an insider attack that was claimed by the Taliban.

The so-called “green-on-blue” attack on Saturday is the latest in a line of incidents where Afghan soldiers have turned their weapons on international forces they are working with.

It also comes as the Taliban ramp up their campaign against the Western-backed government in Afghanistan, and as US President Donald Trump mulls sending more troops into the lengthy conflict.

Nangarhar provincial spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told AFP the Afghan commando had opened fire on US troops during an operation in the volatile Achin district.

“The (Afghan) soldier was also killed in the return fire,” he said.

The Pentagon said the families of the three dead soldiers were being informed.

“One US soldier was wounded and has been evacuated for medical treatment,” a spokesman added. “This incident is under investigation.”

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the deaths, saying the attack was carried out by an infiltrator.

A few weeks ago a massive truck bomb killed 90 and injured 400 in the heart of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.

Days later, another 20 were killed and 87 injured after a series of bomb blasts targeted a funeral also in Kabul.

Nothing positive has come out of this occupation. The capital city of Kabul isn’t secure and the general population is increasingly viewing American military forces as occupiers. The Taliban is gaining not losing support. Islamic terrorism has increased not decreased.

Removing the Taliban out of power has only fueled the nation’s opium production. This is a key ingredient used in the production of heroin. Interesting that the increase in Afghanistan’s opium production has coincided with all the drug problems in the United States. This is definitely not a coincidence.

Unless we plan to openly exploit the country for its mineral resources, there is zero benefit to continuing military operations. It was always absurd to believe that a bunch of primitive cave dwellers were going to adopt freedom and democracy at the barrel of a gun.

Who knows though, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe we just need to be there another 16 years and things will work out just fine!
