A man that allegedly kidnapped and killed a woman, and was later shot dead by police during a shootout in a Talladega Walmart, has been named by police.
Eugene Benjamin Weathers, 48, was killed after opening fire at two Talladega Police officers who were responding to reports of a possible kidnapping in the area. Officers fired back, killing Weathers.
Later in the investigation officers found Brianna Nicole Post, 24, dead in the back of the vehicle. It was believed that Post was kidnapped by Weathers, although it’s not yet clear how the pair knew one another. Weathers injured two officers during the shootout.
One officer was airlifted to UAB Hospital, while a second officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
