Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez predicts that Miami will not exist ‘in a few years’ if the Green New Deal is not passed.
The New York representative, 29, made her chilling warning about the effects of climate change at the NAACP forum on Wednesday.
‘What is not realistic is not responding with a solution on the scale of the crisis — because what’s not realistic is Miami not existing in a few years,’ she said.
Ocasio-Cortez reiterated that we need to be ‘realistic’ about the problem and make changes immediately.
She revealed the Green New Deal proposal in February, which focused on changing the economy, renewable energy alternatives and resource efficiency.
In August she also said if glaciers melt they could release ‘prehistoric diseases… killing humans.’
She added: ‘There are a lot of diseases that are frozen in some of these glaciers that scientists fear that there is a potential that a lot of diseases could escape these melted glaciers.’
This is incredibly serious.
The last thing we need is a sunken Miami, prehistoric diseases…
