Apple’s slowdown of older phones is a conspiracy against the customer.
They are saying that they did it because it saved battery life, as older phones struggle to keep up with the energy needed. Yet there would be absolutely no reason not to have been upfront about that when they made the decision if that were actually true. They could have given people options. They also could have issued differing software updates for the phones, designed to mitigate battery life issues.
And here’s the kicker: if the battery actually was a problem, than that would be reason enough for people to replace their phones. People regularly buy new phones because the battery won’t hold a charge – most people do not even know you can replace a battery. The fact that they slowed the phones in order to bully people into buying newer models indicates that the battery wasn’t really a problem.
Instead of doing something meaningful to apologize for this massive scandal, they are giving people a battery discount.
Apple has apologised for deliberately slowing down its devices as they age, and has announced plans for how it wants to make it up to consumers.
In a statement issued this morning, Apple said it had faced some backlash after revealing that it slowed the processors in older iPhone models — including the iPhone 7, 6, 6s and SE — when their batteries began to wear out, and acknowledged that many customers felt “let down”.
“We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process,” it said.
Starting in January next year, Apple said it would make it cheaper to replace iPhone batteries, and attempt to be more transparent.
It said it would drop the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement from $US79 to $US29 in the United States.
Of course, the fact of this particular matter is that the affirmative action CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, has failed the company and so must resort to dirty trickery to keep profits coming in.
His business plan is literally “WE’LL JUST SELL INFINITY PHONES LOL.”
Most people that have the iPhone 6 or later will not be interested in a new phone until their current one breaks. So he decided to break them for people.
I am genuinely surprised that the outrage is not greater than it is. This was an extreme betrayal by a company that presents itself as being ethical.
