Police arrested a North Carolina man in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting in Lynchburg.
Travis Jermale Singleton, 20, of Rockingham, N.C., is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Brandon Scott Carter, according to a Lynchburg Police Department news release Friday.
Singleton was located in Richmond County in North Carolina on Thursday, the news release said. The vehicle believed to have been driven during the shooting also was located in Richmond County.
Carter was shot in the shoulder during a drive-by on Cliff Street at about noon Nov. 10. He was pronounced dead at the Centra’s Lynchburg General Hospital.
In a Nov. 11 news release, police believe the shooting could have been provoked by a fight that Carter had been involved in a few minutes earlier that day up the street at the Fort Food Mart at 2404 Fort Ave. The fight was not gang-related, the release said.
Shafqat Ali, who owns the food mart, had said he called 911 at 11:54 a.m. after a customer told him about several men fighting outside. He didn’t witness the incident, and said the people involved scattered by the time officers arrived.
Singleton now is held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg.
The Lynchburg Police Department said in the news release it is continuing to investigate and “additional arrests are expected.”
