Black Arrested for Shooting Death of White Woman at Auto Shop

Andrew Pena shot and killed Angelica Jewel Echols during an argument with someone else, at an auto shop.

One man is in custody for the murder of a woman in North Austin Wednesday.

Police say 52-year-old Andrew Pena shot 22-year-old Angelica Jewel Echols at the Deluxe Auto Service Shop on 8307 Jamestown Drive, where Pena also lived.

Echols and a male companion went to the auto repair shop at 5:41 a.m. to “confront an individual,” according to a statement from police.

The confrontation escalated, according to APD, and Echols was shot once in her upper torso. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital at 6:12 a.m.

Pena is charged with murder, a first degree felony. His bond is set at $1 million.
