Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services said on Tuesday that the agency never had custody of Li’Asia Moorer, the Cleveland toddler who died on Friday.
Moorer’s mother’s boyfriend is charged in her death.
“I love her, and I can’t get her back,” said Terrance Trone, Moorer’s father, who calls Li’Asia “Lee-Lee.”
Trone said he and his wife have been fighting the last two months to get custody of 2-year-old Li’Asia.
Moorer’s mother, Barbara Wichrowski, used a power of attorney to give her boyfriend, Jason Hull, custody of Moorer.
She also gave Hull custody of their newborn baby. Wichrowski is in jail for human trafficking.
“Lee-Lee is dead, right when we’re about to get her back,” added Trone. “Lee-Lee is supposed to be home today.”
Trone was supposed to have a custody hearing for his daughter on Tuesday. He expected to get her back.
Hull arrived at Lutheran Hospital Friday afternoon with Moorer. The police report describes Moorer as “badly battered.”
She pronounced dead on arrival.
“There are bruises all over her body, signs of scalding, blisters on the legs and feet, and also signs of sexual abuse,” said Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Paul Racette in court on Tuesday.
Hull has a lengthy criminal record that includes trafficking cocaine, felonious assault and domestic violence.
Children and Family Services said a social worker made at least three visits to Hull’s house. Each time, the social worker determined the children were never in any imminent danger.
Trone also a criminal history which includes trafficking and possessing drugs.
He’s also been indicted for aggravated robbery.
