Alpharetta Patch
December 31, 2013
A Stockbridge man has been arrested and charged with three counts of child molestation against an Alpharetta girl, according to an incident report from the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
Elmer Moffit, 47, of Stockbridge, was arrested Dec. 19 on three counts of child molestation and on a fugitive from justice warrant from the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota, according to inmate records with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Dec. 20, where he is being held without bond.
The victim’s mother told Alpharetta police that she had reconnected with the suspect in 2011. They had been friends from her days in Rockford IL from age 5 until they lost contact with each other at age 20. She agreed to have Moffitt come to Georgia and stay in their home while he did some home repairs and remodeling work, the incident report said.
It wasn’t until Thanksgiving time this year that the victim mentioned an incident with Moffitt. Her mother questioned her until she described the alleged molestation. Both times other people were in the home when the incidents occurred.
The victim’s mother positively identified a photo of Moffitt that was found online through a Google search, according to a detective’s report. The search result with photo was from the Minnesota Department of Corrections website. She did not know that Moffitt was a registered sex offender in Minnesota.
Moffitt is wanted for knowingly violating the requirement to register as a predatory offender in a warrant issued in 2011. The Minnesota Second District Court warrant says he lived in St. Cloud, MN at that time.
