A man was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday after a trial in Atlantic County, authorities said.
A jury in Superior Court found Troy Demby, 37, of Egg Harbor Township, guilty of fatally shooting 30-year-old Raphael Terrigino two years ago in Pleasantville. Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced the conviction in a statement Thursday.
The morning of Feb. 2, 2018, Pleasantville police found Terrigino in his car, which was near a home on Stenton Avenue. He was dead of a gunshot wound.
Five days later, investigators found Demby in a home with 8 ounces of cocaine. He was later indicted on murder and drug charges, including possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.
“This is yet another tragic example of the negative impact that drugs have on our families and in our community,” Tyner said in his statement. “There are no winners with illegal drug trade. The defendant in this matter will no longer have an opportunity to peddle poison in Atlantic County, and will certainly spend the next three decades haunted by taking the life of Mr. Terrigino.”
