U.S. Marshals and Georgia sheriff’s deputies arrested a Vacherie man in connection to a fatal hit and run that left an LSU student dead last June.
Janneh Trench, 36, arrested in Clayton, Georgia in connection of the death of LSU student Eric Fabre, 20, on June 20, 2014.
Fabre’s family says no one should ever have to lose a loved one the way they did.
“I’m glad he’s caught so he can never do this again to another family,” said Fabre’s mother Milisa Hubbard.
According to Baton Rouge Police, Fabre was killed as a result of a traffic crash which occurred in the 9700 block of Airline Hwy on June 20, 2014 around 12:50am. Fabre was driving a 2013 Honda Ruckus scooter north on Airline Hwy when he was struck in the rear end by a red vehicle. Fabre died at the scene.
Baton Rouge Police Traffic Homicide Investigators learned that after the crash Trench fled the scene and later arrived at an abandoned lot in the 2500 block of Erie Street. Trench then attempted to burn the red 2007 Chrysler 300 which he was driving to destroy any evidence from the crash. The Baton Rouge Fire Department says they will add a simple arson charge.
Trench is awaiting extradition. He has a hearing in Georgia at 10 a.m. Tuesday. According to police, he will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of Negligent Homicide, Felony Hit and Run, Reckless Operation, Obstruction of Justice and Operating a Vehicle while Under Suspension.
