Ashlee Mock was just standing by her car when the inebriated chimp drove straight into her and killed her.

The Montgomery man who confessed to driving drunk, crashing his vehicle and killing 25-year-old Ashlee Mock will spend the next two years in the county jail.

Kevin Crosskey, 29, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to murder and first-degree assault in September, court records show.

Mock’s family questioned the justice behind the man responsible for the death of their beloved daughter only getting a two-year sentence.

According to court records, Mock and her boyfriend, Jeremy Gaines, were standing by Mock’s parked car in the 1900 block of Yarbrough Street in north Montgomery at 11:27 p.m. on Oct 18, 2013 when Crosskey crashed his SUV into them.

Mock died at the scene and Gaines suffered serious injuries.

Crosskey later admitted to drinking a dozen beers before getting behind the wheel, according to court records.

Mock and Gaines were saying goodnight for the evening when the crash occurred outside of Gaines’ home, Mock’s mother, Kay, said during a previous interview with Al.com.

Just days after Ashlee Mock’s death, Kay said her family’s faith in God helped get them through the tragedy.

“Our faith is our one thing and the love and the support of all of the people who loved her and she loved,” she said. “It gives you strength to make it through the next hour.”
