The razor blade-wielding man charged with slashing two straphangers on a Brooklyn subway car was fresh out of jail and armed with two steak knives when he attacked, prosecutors and sources said Thursday.
Stanley Gray allegedly went on the terrifying rampage Tuesday on a Manhattan-bound C train – just 11 days after being released from Rikers Island for misdemeanor assault Oct. 23, according to sources.
The 29-year-old career criminal had been staying at an East Flatbush homeless shelter on Oct. 5, when he began banging on a locker as others slept and punched two men in the face, sources said.
“I asked for the room to be changed but they took a long time,” Gray told cops.
Gray pleaded guilty to third-degree assault charges on Oct. 16 and was sentenced to 30 days jail, court records show.
At his arraignment Thursday in Brooklyn Criminal Court, prosecutors said Gray hopped on the train at Rockaway Avenue and attacked “without words,” using a razor blade to slash victims Oneal Mendez, 32, and Matthew Ruff, 22, in broad daylight.
“The complainants will have permanent scarring to their face,” said Assistant District Attorney Wilfredo Cotto.
The madman then fled the bloody scene at the Ralph Avenue stop and was picked up by cops shortly after at a nearby liquor store, Cotto said.
