A Philadelphia man wanted in Williamsport in the shooting death of a 30-year-old North Carolina construction worker was arrested Friday afternoon in High Point, N.C.
Rashwan Jeffrey Williams, 32, who was arrested in vicinity of a sister’s home, will be returned to face charges that include criminal homicide, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm without license and terroristic threats, Assistant Chief Timothy S. Miller said.
Williams is accused of killing Aaron Coty Lowry of Lumberton, N.C., outside the Lamp House Hookah in the 400 block of West Third Street about 2:35 a.m. last Sunday. The two did not know each other, police said.
Lowry, part of the construction crew building the YMCA in the city, was talking to Williams’ girlfriend inside the lounge but left, police said.
When the woman ran outside with Williams following, a male friend of Lowry’s allegedly told the accused he should not be assaulting the female, the arrest affidavit states.
Lowry was shot at close range when, according to police, he attempted to punch Williams. Williams is accused of threatening the male friend before fleeing.
Lowry was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after the shooting in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center emergency room.
Williams, who has family ties in Williamsport, was tracked through his cellphone use into Virginia and a car in which it is believed he was transported later was found in that state, Miller said.
Federal marshals were involved in his arrest, he said.
