“Give me a reason” is the forever philosophy of the Blacks.

Shoveled snow is a reason.

CBS 7:

Scarber died early Thursday after an altercation over shoveling snow.

According to Hobbs Police, Scarber got into a physical altercation with 34-year-old Abilene-native McClellan Calhoun Jr. over Scarber’s shoveling the snow in the 300 block of North Midland.

When police arrived, Scarber was found lying on the ground unresponsive. He later died at a nearby hospital.

Scarber’s daughter, Tammy Priest, says that her dad was a maintenance worker for the Allsup’s companies, and she doesn’t understand how something like this could have happened.

“He was just doing his job…my dad was a wonderful man and he would have done anything for anyone,” Priest said.

Priest says her father was hard worker and would never brought harm to anyone, so it’s difficult to understand this happening to him.

“We’re just kind of lost,” Priest said.

According to Priest her father didn’t have life insurance, and the expenses for his funeral are well above three thousand dollars. Priest currently works as a waitress, so the financial pressure added to the emotional stress of losing her father is very overwhelming.

“I just can’t understand why this happened, my father deserved better than this,” Priest said.

Calhoun has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, a 4th Degree Felony. He is currently being held in the Hobbs City Jail without bond.

Family Friends have set up a GoFund me account for anyone wanting to help Priest and her family with funeral expenses.
