Homicide detectives on Monday have identified a suspect in a double shooting that left the alleged killer’s 22-year-old ex-girlfriend and a 24-year-old man dead in Winnetka, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Brian Anthony Gonzales, 24, was wanted in connection with the fatal shootings, which occurred about 4:20 p.m. Sunday in the 7600 block of Oso Avenue, LAPD said in a news release.
Gonzales is the ex-boyfriend of the female victim, according to the release.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police said the female victim had called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend was at her residence and had a gun.
By the time officers arrived at the location, they found the victims unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, a unit of an apartment building.
LAPD Capt. Alan Hamilton said on Sunday that the pair had been shot multiple times.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the 24-year-old male victim as Jerrad Cardae Scott, a resident of La Mesa, in San Diego County. A friend told KTLA he left behind a son who is about 1 year old.
After a delay while the coroner’s office sought to notify family, officials said the other victim was 22-year-old Emily Fox of Los Angeles.
Neighbor Lisa Lyons told KTLA in an interview Monday morning that the woman’s name was Emily. She was a student at Cal State Northridge who was looking to go into the field of law enforcement, Lyons said.
She said she ran out of her home after hearing gunfire.
“It was maybe eight shots … bang, bang, bang, bang, one after the other,” Lyons said.
Police were asking for the public’s help in locating Gonzales, who police said may go by the name “Brian Hammond.” He was described by authorities in the release as black, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and approximately 160 pounds.
