A man is accused of physically assaulting a woman — who died of her injuries — earlier this week inside a Sacramento hotel room.
Officers with the Sacramento Police Department arrested 52-year-old Fredrick Tatum in the death of April Fowler at the Quality Inn, according to a news release. Tatum will face a murder charge.
Just after 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, police learned of a possible body found in the third-floor room of a hotel in the 3700 block of Northgate Boulevard.
Officers, with help from the Sacramento Fire Department, pronounced Fowler dead at the scene.
She was 42 years old.
It was Tatum’s caregiver who called police and requested a welfare check on Fowler, after becoming suspicious during a brief visit with the man.
When officers arrived at the hotel room, they immediately detained Tatum. He was taken to police headquarters for questioning, and then booked at the Sacramento County Jail for failing to register as a sex offender.
Detectives are awaiting the coroner’s report. They said Tatum and Fowler were friends.
