A 21-year-old mother was arrested during a vehicle stop on Tuesday in connection to the death of her three-year-old son earlier this year.
Shantonio Hunter’s son died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital on April 26.
An ambulance was called to the 21-year-old woman’s home on North 12th Street after she reported the toddler had stopped breathing.
Hospital staff said the child had numerous injuries, including bruising to his abdomen, chest, back, legs, arms, face and head.
It was determined the boy died due to blunt force trauma.
Hunter is charged with felony murder, aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
Her boyfriend, 31-year-old Donald Harris, also faces charges for his involvement in the child’s death.
He has been jailed since mid-May for aggravated child abuse and neglect charges.
