A Binghamton woman who called police in August to tell them she had stabbed her two sons to death was arraigned Monday in Criminal Court on two counts of felony murder.
Jamina Briggs, 30, of 230 Tillman, has a history of schizophrenia and other mental problems, family members have told police. She has been committed to a state mental health facility pending further order of the court.
Briggs called police around 9:30 p.m. on July 31 and said voices had told her to stab her two sons, Nicholas Briggs, 6, and Jeremiah Briggs, 23 months.
When police arrived at the residence on Tillman, Jamina Briggs met police at the door with blood on her hands. The two boys were found face down on a couch, each with multiple stab wounds.
The oldest child had been removed from the home in 2012 and should have been living with another relative.
A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted her on two counts of murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and neglect.
