He thought the cop would kill him for being black.
Leesburg Police have officially charged a person of interest on Wednesday in the shooting at a Leesburg Police officer during a traffic stop, authorities said.
Jonathon Nadre Harris, 24, is being charged with attempted murder of a police officer.
Harris was taken to the Leesburg Police Department at about 1:30 p.m. to be interviewed, according to Lt. Joe Iozzi.
Officer Travonte Kitchen allegedly pulled over Harris riding a bicycle on U.S. Highway 441 on Monday night because he didn’t have a working tail light, a police report stated.
Kitchen reportedly asked Harris to show his hands, police said.
The suspect raised his hands initially, dropping his right hand and placing it inside his hooded jacket, according to the officer’s dashcam video. He then jogged toward the road, fired at least one shot toward the officer and ran away.
