Steven Dell was ordered held on $500,000 bail on a felony charge of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

A West Side prostitution sting took a violent turn Friday when a man twice punched an undercover Chicago police officer in the face, leaving her with a broken nose.

The vice officer was talking to a prospective john in the Lawndale neighborhood late Friday when a honking vehicle approached, an arrest report shows. Police said a man in that car said “Get off my corner, white hoe,” and the officer, trying to maintain her cover, responded by telling him to be quiet.

But when the man, later identified by police as Steven Dell, got out of the car and began “aggressively advancing towards her,” the officer put her hands up and identified herself as police, the arrest report states.

That didn’t deter Dell, who said he didn’t care if she was an officer and then punched her twice in the face, police and prosecutors said. Officers then arrested Dell, 44, in the 4700 block of West Arthington Street.

Records show Dell was paroled last July from the Illinois Department of Corrections after a 2007 robbery conviction. Dell, of the 4500 block of West Wilcox Street in West Garfield Park, was to remain on parole until 2016. He has past convictions for armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, robbery and residential burglary, IDOC records show.

In bond court Saturday, Judge Laura Marie Sullivan ordered Dell held on $500,000 bail on a felony charge of aggravated battery to a peace officer.
