Police say a U.S. Postal Service worker was making deliveries when robbers held him at gunpoint and stole several packages from his mail truck.
The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Georgina Drive, near I-94 and Harris Drive in Ypsilanti Township.
The postal worker told police he was walking back to his mail truck when he was approached by a man who then brandished a handgun.
According to police, the gunman forced the worker to the ground and took the vehicle’s keys so he could open the rear door to the mail truck. At this point, police say another male suspect came to the truck. The two suspects then removed several packages before fleeing on foot.
The suspect armed with the handgun is described as a black male, 6′ tall with thin to medium build, wearing a blue and gold waist length jacket. A description of the second suspect was not available.
Police say they’re not sure exactly how many packages were stolen from the truck, nor what their contents were. The U.S. Postal Inspectors are working jointly with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.
A $10,000 reward is being offered by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
