A southwest Ohio prosecutor provided an update in the investigation of the slaying of a Kentucky woman on Interstate 75.
Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell held a Monday news conference in the case of 41-year-old Terry Froman. He’s been accused of killing his estranged girlfriend’s son in Kentucky, kidnapping her and then killing her on I-75 in Turtlecreek Township.
“The last call I made before coming in here today was to her father. They’re obviously still in shock over what happened but they’re a very gracious family and extraordinarily appreciative and understand the issues in terms of what makes the most sense of where to prosecute the case,” Fornshell said.
Froman was arrested Sept. 12. Authorities say he was treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the body of 34-year-old Kim Thomas was in his car on the interstate, which police had shut down.
Reports indicate Froman shot Thomas after a chase by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Thomas’ son, Michael Mahoney, 17, son was found dead, shot multiple times, at the woman’s home in Graves County, Kentucky, Sheriff Dewayne Redmon said.
Redmon said Mahoney was trying to protect Thomas from Froman when he was shot to death.
Froman was Thomas’ estranged boyfriend, Redmon said.
Froman is charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of discharging a firearm on a private premises. If convicted, Froman could face the death penalty.
A Lebanon municipal judge referred Froman’s case to a grand jury and ordered him to remain held under $1 million bond. Court records show no attorney for the Brookport, Illinois, man, who also faces charges in Kentucky.
Fornshell said a grand jury in Graves County has already indicted Froman on charges related to the killing of Mahoney. That case will be held after the Ohio case, and it will also be a death penalty case.
