Jimmy O’Neill was killed while trying to stop a Black thief from stealing his car.

A 35-year-old man has been named as a suspect in the death of a Papa John’s pizza deliveryman who was run over by his own car.

Members of the U. S. Marshal’s Lone Star Fugitive Task force said they found Robert Carlos Delcid Tuesday night hiding in a motel near Loop 410 and Broadway and took him into custody without incident.

Delcid later was turned over to San Antonio police detectives to face a charge of capital murder.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a friend of Delcid told investigators he was with him when William O’Neill, 46, was run down and killed.

Police said O’Neill had left the engine running in his 2000 Toyota Camry when he went to deliver pizza at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of DeZavala Road.

The affidavit stated that a witness told police he and Delcid, whom he has known for about a month and a half, were walking through the complex when they noticed the idling car.

He said Delcid got into the car and began to drive away when he heard a loud crash, the affidavit stated.

The man said he then noticed O’Neill lying on the ground and realized that Delcid had run over him as he drove off in the car, the affidavit stated.

O’Neill was rushed to a hospital where he died. As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, Delcid was still in custody, waiting to appear before a magistrate.
