A Fayette County man and his dog are recovering after they were attacked and threatened while out for a walk earlier this week.
Fred Hardin, 52, and his dog, Crosby, are a fixture on East Main Street in Uniontown.
On Columbus Day, Hardin was off from his job as a parking lot attendant.
About 11 a.m., near the courthouse, he and his best friend were taking a walk. That’s when Crosby, who was on a leash, began barking at 20-year-old Tredale Hall.
Hall threatened to kick the dog.
“I said that’s not polite, you know; why you want to be a punk about it?” said Hardin.
Hall kicked Crosby in the head.
“So I put the leash down to try to protect me and Crosby,” said Hardin.
Lt. Tom Kolencik, of the Uniontown Police, says that’s when Hall attacked Fred from behind.
“Pushed him to the ground, started stomping his head, yelling obscenities at him, threats, kicked him, punched him,” said Lt. Kolencik.
Hall, and a teenager with him took off, but an officer soon caught up to them.
“He was taken into custody a short distance away. He admitted to the assaults,” Lt. Kolencik said.
Hardin was taken to the hospital for swelling, bruising and cuts. But what upsets him most is that anyone would hurt Crosby.
“I’ve had him for four years, and he’s a really good dog. He likes everybody,” said Hardin.
Hall is being held in the Fayette County Jail on charges of simple and aggravated assault, harassment, and animal cruelty.
