A man has been arrested in connection with the August beating death of a Springfield man.

Jeremy Carmichael, 29, of Springfield, was picked up by the SOFAST regional task force early Friday in Springfield.

A Clark County grand jury issued a secret indictment of Carmichael on a charge of involuntary manslaughter, said Sgt. Jeff Flores of the Springfield Police Division.

Josh Hise, 38, was beaten Aug. 12 in a parking lot of an apartment complex on Vester Avenue and later died of his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Carmichael was named as the sole suspect, police said.

Carmichael is in police custody and will be booked in the Clark County Jail, police said.

Jeremy Carmichael is the only one arrested so far, but there may well have been more involved.

Officers responded around 12:20 a.m. Aug. 12 to a fight at an apartment in the 1300 block of Vester Avenue and found Hise unconscious at the scene, according to a police incident report.

A 9-1-1 caller told dispatchers she was woken up by two women fighting outside of her home, according to dispatch records. The caller dialed 9-1-1 again to report the fight had escalated to include five or six people.
