Bringing Chaos to Syria

The fruits of the Arab Spring.
The fruits of the Arab Spring.

Today Secretary of State John Kerry claimed that the use of chemical weapons in Syria is “undeniable”:

The civil war in Syria is reported to have already claimed 100,000 lives over the past two years, and yet our leaders expect us to join the conflict now that the magic of “weapons of mass destruction” has been invoked.

Kerry’s opinion on the situation, however, is not shared by all. Vladimir Putin is reported as saying, “they did not have evidence of whether a chemical weapons attack had taken place or who was responsible.”  But when is comes to WMD claims, the US government does not require hard evidence.  As then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld famously said on the subject of WMDs and Iraq, “the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.”  As the claim is repeated in the media and the images of supposed WMD victims are shown over and over again, many Americans will gradually accept that military intervention in Syria is justified.

On the likely outcome of US involvement in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said , “If anyone thinks that destroying Syria’s military infrastructure and leaving the battleground open for the opposition to take victory would be the end of it, that is an illusion.”  Mr. Lavrov is certainly correct.  Ten years after the invasion of Iraq, civil unrest and violence is still a feature of daily life, and there is no reason to believe that Syria would be any different.

It is hardly necessary to point out the hypocrisy of Kerry’s appeal to humanity and morality, given the massive slaughter of innocent life that has accompanied American military action around the globe, as well as the brutality of the Syrian rebels.  Nor should we believe that Kerry and other American leaders are so naive as to think that their efforts will not result in chaos.  In fact, chaos is their goal.  Just like Saddam Hussein, Assad has been able to maintain a government that stabilizes age-old ethnic and religious conflicts in his country, and removing Assad from power can only bring about intense suffering and disorder for the people of Syria.  All nations resisting the advance of the Jewish New World Order (aka “rogue states”) will be treated in a similar manner.
