Puerto Rico used to be a colony, now it is a “territory” – and whatever that term means, it is very, very expensive.
They are pushing for statehood by 2021 now.
Lawmakers on Wednesday introduced new bipartisan legislation to make Puerto Rico the nation’s 51st state by 2021.
The bill, known as the Puerto Rico Admission Act of 2018 was presented by Puerto Rico’s resident commissioner, Jenniffer González-Colón, a Republican who authored the bill and is a nonvoting member of Congress.
“This is the first step to open a serious discussion to determine the ultimate political status of Puerto Rico,” González said. “To sum everything up, this is about equality.”
The bipartisan effort is co-sponsored by 36 members of Congress, 22 Republicans and 14 Democrats.
“I’m pleased to be one of the sponsors,” said Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources. “I look forward to the day 51 is a reality.”
Of course the GOP cucks support this – it’s free open markets and whatever the hell. I don’t know what it is. I don’t care.
What I want to talk about is Puerto Rican NATIONHOOD – why cannot they simply become their own country?
Americans benefit in no way from being associated with this island. They are the most incompetent, dumb brown people around. They get hit by the same hurricane as us, they can’t fix it with infinity money, then they say it’s because we didn’t give them DOUBLE infinity money to fix it.
It is a standard shithole.
They have all of these drugs. There is not a valid sex tourism industry even. What is the point of this place?
They have some nice beaches, but hey – they will be begging Americans to come there if they are forced into nationhood, and everything will be cheaper.
They will probably also legalize hookers at that point too.
They owe us all this money – let’s just write it off, and let them go. It’s a fair deal – if they take back all their people from New York and so on.
Let them figure out their own thing.
It’s such a joke that colonialism was supposed to be this horrible thing, but this is a colony that is begging to remain a colony – and then be absorbed into our nation.
We talk about this horrible war with Mexico where we “stole” California, Texas, etc. – but all of the Latinos in that territory were rooting for the US, because they wanted to be a part of America and not Mexico.
Similar to the annexation of Crimea, I guess a little bit – all of those people wanted to be a part of Russia, but it was considered evil because… of whatever. Some abstract nonsense about “territorial integrity.”
If territorial integrity is an important geopolitical concept, then let’s give it to Puerto Rico.
Write off the debt. Fine. Who cares.
The last thing we want is to remain connected to these dumb brown island people.
