Even with ridiculous happenings like 82 people shot in a 84 hour period over the 4th of July weekend, Chicago does not have the highest murder rate per capita. It is just the city with the highest total murder rate.
Here are the top 4 murder cities per capita according to 2012 FBI data, along with their racial make-ups according to 2010 census data:
1.) Flint, Michigan, (62 murders per 100,000) – 56.6% African American, 37.4% White, 0.5% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 1.1% from other races, and 3.9% from two or more races
2.) Detroit, Michigan (54.6 murders per 100,000) – 82.7% African American, 10.6% White (7.8% non-Hispanic whites, 2.8% Hispanic whites), 3% from other races
3.) New Orleans, Louisiana (53.2 per 100,000) – 60.2% African American, 33.0% White, 2.9% Asian, 1.7% people of two or more races
4.) Jackson, Mississippi (35.8 per 100,000) – 79.4% African American, 18.4% White, 0.1% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.9% from two or more races
Chicago came in 21st place, with 18.5 murders per 100,000.
Sorry, Chicago. Though as White people continue to flee you, oh windy city, I’m sure your rating will go up.
Even at 21st place, you are still a great African city, with plenty of murder.
The 4th of July Weekend really was a blast, and we all enjoyed having the whole world look at our country and tell us we needed to have our guns taken away because we are so irresponsible. Thanks for that, Africans of Chicago.
