Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince is a diabolical asshole who opposes free speech.
Cloudflare’s CEO Matthew Prince is back in the news. This is the same man who woke up in a bad mood one day and decided to ban the Daily Stormer from using Cloudflare’s distributed denial of service or ddos protection offering. His rationale for this is that we were a bunch of “assholes” and had to be banned. This move proved conclusively that he has no interest in protecting free speech on the internet. In fact, this move proved that he is directly opposed to it.
Suffice to say, this guy is a real clown. It’s hard to believe that this is the caliber of person in charge of a fairly sizable Silicon Valley tech firm.
As with nearly every other company in Silicon Valley, Prince favors existing net neutrality regulations. He’s vowed to fight the Federal Communications Commission plan to overturn it even though he thinks the change would be good for his company.
Repeal of #netneutrality is likely good for @Cloudflare. With our scale we’ll be able to negotiate for fast lanes with ISPs and squeeze smaller players out. But it’s BAD FOR THE INTERNET — so we will fight the #FCC to oppose it. #dotherightthing

He feels so strongly about net neutrality, that he was openly plotting on Twitter to rate limit the FCC chairman’s internet access!
I could do this in a different, but equally effective, way.

sent note to our GC to see if we can without breaking any laws.

Now let’s just think about this. Supporters of net neutrality are concerned that companies like Comcast, Verizon and other internet service providers will rate limit traffic and censor specific types of content if existing regulations are repealed. This is the main point they’ve been pushing to justify their claim that net neutrality is a good thing. So why is Prince, a major supporter of net neutrality, openly plotting to do that exact same thing on Twitter? He even said that he’d discuss the matter with his general counsel!
I’m certainly no fan of big ISPs like Comcast or Verizon but at least we don’t see people on their top management teams plotting weird schemes like this. There is also no evidence of them having ever blocked sites based on political content.
Why should we believe that we need net neutrality when Prince himself is plotting this type of chicanery? It shows once again that the biggest threats to internet freedom are these Silicon Valley companies who support net neutrality.
Facebook, Google, Twitter, Cloudflare and many others already have a proven track record of censoring political content they dislike. Do you really think that they support net neutrality because they believe in free political speech? They’re all opposed to it and this fool that runs Cloudflare has shown that to be true yet again.
