The greatest ally of the negro is the white woman. Never trust either.
Lindsey Jo McFadden, 29, of Longview and Carlton Lamar Grant, 37, of the Dallas area were transferred Monday to the Upshur County Jail, charged with capital murder in the death of Rachel Rhoads, 24, of Longview. Both are being held without bond.
One person interviewed by police said McFadden and Rhoads were friends who attended drug rehab classes together. Grant, who was identified as McFadden’s boyfriend, had gone with McFadden to Rhoads’ home.
McFadden told investigators that all three of them had left Rhoads’ residence March 29 in Rhoads’ car.
“Along the drive from the back-seat area (McFadden) told (the officer) that (Grant) reached from the back-seat area and placed a bungee cord around the victim’s neck as she was driving and demanded that (McFadden) take the wheel,” according to the warrant.
Rhoads was moved to the back seat and Carlton placed a zip tie around her neck, choking her, McFadden told police. Rhoads’ official cause of death was strangulation.
McFadden said they drove “random places” with Rhoads in the trunk and disposed of some evidence along the way, according to the warrant.
Ultimately, the pair lit Rhoads’ body on fire and left it near a gas pipeline right of way off FM 726 in Upshur County. Her body was found “badly burned” on April 1 in the same location, according to the affidavit.
