DART police are asking for help in identifying a man accused of beating a passenger with cerebral palsy to the ground, then stealing the victim’s phone in northwest Dallas last week.
On Wednesday, the man asked a passenger on the Walnut Hill/Denton Station platform to share his e-cigarette, DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said. When the passenger refused, the man walked away, but returned to punch the victim and steal his cellphone.
The victim, who told KDFW-TV (Channel 4) he has cerebral palsy, said he managed to keep his assailant from kicking him and escaped on the train with another passenger’s help.
“I want him caught,” the victim, who asked not to be named, told the station. “I want people to feel that they can get to where they are going and feel safe.”
Surveillance footage captured images of the attacker, whom authorities described as a tall, thin black man in his early 20s. He was wearing a gray Texans hoodie cinched around his face and blue jeans and was carrying a red and black Adidas bag.
