I was all in for Elon Musk.
Not just because he let me on Twitter, but because of what letting me on Twitter implied.
It’s officially been a week now that I’ve been indefinitely suspended without any explanation or meaningful way to appeal.
In 3 months, I went from 200 followers to nearly 25,000 followers. I’m not an irrelevant person. I’ve been on the cover of the New York Times more than once and the Atlantic literally put my face on the cover of their print publication.
Elon Musk knows who I am. At the very least, he found out who I was when I got back on Twitter in January and all those article were being spammed about “neo-Nazis.” He responded directly to people posting those articles. And let’s just be real – I’m not going to break anyone’s confidence, but I’m gonna go ahead and just let you know: he knew who I was before that as well.
Everyone in Silicon Valley knows who I am, if for no other reason than because the censorship I suffered in 2017 fundamentally changed the internet forever.
Here’s the thing: I’m a relevant public figure, and if I’m going to be banned like this, there needs to be some kind of explanation.
The same is true for Nick Fuentes, not to mention the unlimited number of people who are not famous who have been unceremoniously dumped by Elon’s Twitter without explanation.
In an interview this week with Bill Maher, Elon explicitly said that Holocaust denial should be allowed. Well, I never denied the Holocaust. I never even said the word “Jew.” I literally did nothing that would have violated the terms under the old Twitter regime. I was being ultra careful out of respect for Elon and not wanting to make trouble.
I certainly did not break any laws – I didn’t even break any of the insane speech laws of Europe (except maybe with regards to the very new laws that some European countries have that say you have to support the Ukraine and say they’re winning).
So what is going on?
This is not what I signed up for.
I’m not even opposed to banning slurs – although I don’t think that should result in a permanent ban. But he can’t go out there and say “oh freedom of speech, yes, First Amendment” and then ban me and Nick for literally no reason.
There is also the question of the Ye banning. He didn’t do anything illegal either. But on that, I’m actually generous enough to say “well, Elon and Ye were friends, and Elon viewed Ye making trouble during the transition as a personal betrayal, and he’ll be reinstated later.”
But the transition is over. The news is no longer barraging Elon with stories about “hate speech.” These problems should have been solved by now, and there should be a mechanism of speaking with a human being if you are going to be banned for literally no reason.
This situation is not acceptable.
If the agenda is to boost Dave Rubin and Charlie Kirk, then just say this is a Republican Party political operation. Don’t say it’s freedom of speech or the First Amendment.
Or, if this is still part of the transition period, and we’re still working out kinks, say that.
Bottom line here: just tell the truth, Elon!
