What if something’s already up though?
Elon Musk has once again issued a stark warning over his fears about the rise of artificial intelligence.
The Telsa CEO shared a pair of tweets today that stated it will not be long until ‘advanced AI’ manipulates social media.
Musk has suggested sites closely watch to see if bot swarms are evolving faster, as this could be a dead giveaway of a robot takeover.
Musk has been an outspoken critic of allowing such technology to progress unchecked, branding it a ‘fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization.’
In the past, the billionaire has predicted that there is ‘maybe a five to 10 percent chance of success’ to making AI safe.

Musk is suggesting that the bot armies could make bot accounts more convincing or effective.
There is indeed power in numbers. These “AI bot armies” could create fake profiles with fake followers, fake tweets and fake responses to those tweets to make everything appear to be more “organic” and trick humans into thinking that they’re dealing with other humans in a kind of “as a fellow human person in this community, I…” kind of strategy.
Notice that Musk said “If advanced AI (beyond basic bots) hasn’t been applied to manipulate social media.” There’s reason to consider the possibility that advance AI has indeed been already applied to manipulate social media.
Earlier this year, I covered some suicide cases that were suspiciously connected to social media and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why show. Given the evidence, I suggested that Instagram’s algorithms could be targeting young white girls.
What is stopping social media from engaging in other forms of social engineering?
They know mostly everything about people: who they talk to, what they like, what profiles they visit the most, how often they log in, what kind of porn they watch and more — they even know which websites people visit when they’re logged out of the social media sites!
Having that kind of personal information about people would certainly ease the task of manipulating them. Feeding that data to AI systems would enable the automation of large-scale manipulation.
It is not just artificial intelligence that Musk is worried about — he worries about a robot takeover.
Responding to footage of a six-foot back-flipping robot released in 2017, the Tesla CEO spoke of the need to control development of AI, or else it could be ‘sweet dreams’ for mankind.
Yeah, especially when people are talking about putting advanced AI into robots.
No wonder Musk fantasizes about fleeing to Mars.
Musk was replying to a tweet sent by user Alex Medina, who does brand design for Vox Media.
He wrote the caption ‘we dead’ alongside footage of Boston Dynamic’s Atlas machine performing the acrobatic feat.
Atlas is 6 foot 9 (two meters) tall and weighs 167 pounds (76 kg), yet can leap over obstacles, perform rapid twists and turns, and even back flips.

Musk responded to Mr Medina’s post by tweeting: ‘This is nothing.
‘In a few years, that bot will move so fast you’ll need a strobe light to see it. Sweet dreams…’
He later added: ‘Got to regulate AI/robotics like we do food, drugs, aircraft and cars.
‘Public risks require public oversight.
‘Getting rid of the FAA won’t make flying safer. They’re there for good reason.’
How many men’s lives has AI destroyed so far though?
How many men has AI infected with STDs?
I’m not saying we shouldn’t regulate AI.
I’m just saying we should also regulate women.
And Jews.
And faggots.
And blacks.
And pretty much everything that’s taking Beauty away from the world.
