The capital murder case against a suspect in the shooting death of an Inglenook teen will move forward following his indictment by a Jefferson County grand jury.
Hakeem Gamble, 25, is charged in the July slaying of 16-year-old Nathaniel Holder. The indictment was issued Sept. 21 and made public Monday.
Shots rang out about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018, in the 1100 block of Alabama Street, said Tarrant police Cpl. Jay Jenkins. The shooting appears to have stemmed from an argument.
Nathaniel was shot while in a vehicle, which constitutes the capital murder charge. He underwent surgery at UAB Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
About four hours later – at 9 p.m. – Gamble was taken into custody at the Budget Motel on Bankhead Highway.
Authorities said Nathaniel’s family removed him from life support at UAB Hospital about 3 p.m. that Monday, and he was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m. Authorities said the two knew each other and were in a dispute but said they have not yet learned the nature of that disagreement.
