Ι am Autolycus and this is the Europa Report for the past week, July 29th το Αugust 5th bringing you the latest news on the Continent regarding new political developments and the ongoing ‘’refugee’’ crisis.
Let us begin with France, where, according to a report of the French senate, 2.800 churches across the country, many of them centuries old, will be demolished as restoration costs exceed the cost of demolitions over the next years. This church, Église Saint-Jacques d’Abbeville, a Neo-Gothic masterpiece in Abbeville, Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie dating back to 1868, was demolished for a total cost of 350,000€ in 2013. The reasoning: It was much cheaper to demolish it than it would cost to restore.
As the number of Frenchmen in France continues to decline due to record-low birth rates, high emigration and Muslim immigration, so do the members of catholic faith, who are now at an all time low. For many cities in France, especially cities in which Christians are the minority, the lack of interest and high property value on which the buildings stand simply does not justify the cost of restoring the churches. Many mayors choose the cheaper demolitions over costly restorations. Thousands of churches are to be demolished over the next years and replaced with shopping malls, stores, apartments or parking lots.
Mosques on the other hand, flourish. The Grand Mosque of Paris recently got a modern, fully retractable Roof, as it is usually only found in football stadiums and hundreds of new Mosques are built every year for the hundreds of thousands of new Muslims born or immigrating into French society, often with taxpayer money.
Indicative of the previously mentioned decline in Christianity in France was the incident that happened on August 3rd when 20 protesters gathered to protest against demolition of a church in Paris.This resulted in the police brutally dragging the priest along the floor by one arm just hours after funeral of Jacques Hamel, killed last week in Normandy.

As France mourned for the death of the beloved priest, Father Jacques Hamel, who was knifed to death by ISIS-inspired attacker in his church in Normandy as he celebrated Mass last week, hundreds of people reacted with fury to the images, which many viewed as a symbol of French culture under the rule of a left-wing government.

Let us see what happened across the English Channel, in the United Kingdom, where one woman has been killed and five people have been injured by a “Somali Origin” man with a knife who attacked people, apparently at random, in the busy area of Bloomsbury in Central London.

Extra armed officers have been deployed in a high visibility precautionary role the morning of August 3rd after police received reports of a man attacking people in Russell Square at 10:33pm on the previous evening. Officers responded to the incident within five minutes of the first call according to a Metropolitan Police statement. Discharging a Taser stun-gun, officers were able to arrest the attacker.
The arrival of officers and ambulance crews were not fast enough to save the life of one victim, a woman described to be in her 60’s who was pronounced dead at the scene. A body bag was observed to be removed from Russell Square in the early hours of this morning.
Another woman and four men were injured and as of this morning two have been discharged from hospital, suggesting they had relatively light injuries.
The attack came on the same day the Met Police announced 600 extra, armed police officers for London and just days after the head of London’s police said that an attack on the British capital was a matter of “when, not if”.

The Somali London stabber was identified as Zak Bulhan who in November 2014 posted a supporting comment underneath a video of a demonstration by Islamists in London opposing the detention of Birmingham-born Pakistani Moazzam Begg.
Begg is a self-confessed Al-Qaeda operative who was detained at Guantanamo Bay for three years after being arrested in Pakistan.
Begg was involved in recruiting soldiers for the Islamist group, raising funds—and even took part in military training in at least two combat camps, all by his own admission.
After his release in 2005, Begg returned to Britain, where in March 2014, he was arrested and charged under Section 6 and Section 17 of the Terrorism Act, for “providing training and funding terrorism overseas” in connection with ISIS in Syria.
Not to mention that, at least 897 “Syrians” living in Britain have been arrested over the past year for serious crimes including rape, death threats, and child abuse, it has emerged.
At the same time, the UK Government has undertaken to resettle up to 20,000 Syrian “refugees” by the end of 2020 under its “Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement” scheme.
In other news, Italy is investigating whether Islamic State is involved in organising the passage of tens of thousands of migrants across the Mediterranean, its justice minister said on Wednesday.

The Turkey to Greece migration route has been largely shut down since a repatriation deal was struck between the European Union and Ankara in March, but hundreds of people are arriving in Italy every day, mostly from Libya.
Criminal gangs have taken advantage of chaos in Libya to charge mainly sub-Saharan Africans, looking for a better life in Europe, hundreds of dollars to make the voyage.
“From the information available, there is an investigation underway focused on whether representatives of ISIS (Islamic State) have crucial roles in controlling and managing migrant flows to Italy,” Justice Minister Andrea Orlando told a parliamentary committee.
He told the hearing on immigration, Europe’s border-free Schengen accord and the activity of European police agency Europol that details of the investigation were secret.
“The risks we have to take on are high,” he said, adding there was also a suspicion the militants were trying to influence where in Italy migrants were eventually placed.
The militant group has made money by selling oil from fields it seized in the Middle East and North Africa and from plundering weapons and ammunition.
Militant groups have smuggled members into Europe among the migrants, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said.
The migrants are taking often unseaworthy boats from Libya to Italy. A total of 4,027 migrants or refugees have died worldwide so far this year, three-quarters of them in the Mediterranean, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday, a 35 percent increase on the global toll during the first seven months of 2015.
More than 257,000 migrants and refugees have entered Europe by sea this year, it said.
Indicative of the heightened security measures taken by the Italian state is the high security cordon around the Colosseum in Rome amid rising fears of a terrorist attack during the summer tourist season.
Nicolo D’Angelo, the Rome police chief, has ordered a series of measures, including new entrance controls at the Colosseum, guarded by his officers. Security perimeters around the Vatican museums and St Peter’s Square are also being extended.
The tighter security comes after the emergence of a new 35-minute video from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), repeating a specific threat to “conquer Rome”.
Moving up North, specifically in Austria where the spate of refugee-terrorist attacks in Europe appear to have boosted the ratings of Austrian Freedom Party presidential candidate Norbert Hofer, with his lead widening to 4 percent,as a new poll has revealed.

The Gallup poll, conducted July 26–27, 2016, is the first to be taken after the attacks and focused specifically on how they have affected voter attitudes for the presidential election rerun scheduled for October 2, 2016.
The results showed that Hofer has a “comfortable lead” over Van der Bellen.

Also, Islam is set to have a permanent foothold in Athens, Greece as a wide majority of Parliament MPs, 210 out of a total of 300, voted in favor of an amendment on Thursday that allows the construction of a state-supervised mosque in the greater Athens area.

The Greek capital at present does not host an official Islamic place or worship, although Muslim diplomats and foreign nationals that are Muslim, including irregular migrants that illegally entered the predominately Christian Orthodox country, have set up make-shift mosques.
Voting in favor were MPs from the ruling leftist SYRIZA party, main opposition New Democracy and several other centrist or center-left parties. The Communist Party (KKE) also voted in favor.
Conversely, deputies of the junior partner in the government coalition, the small rightist-populist Independent Greeks party (AN.EL) joined the nationalist Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) in voting against. A total of 20 “no” votes were recorded.
The site of the new mosque building is in Eleonas, an Athens neighborhood. It will be a low-rise construction without a minaret and a prayer hall for 350 Shia and Sunni Muslims.
Another report in the same paper said that new government data had revealed that there were at least 57,182 invaders currently in Greece.
Lastly, Czech President Miloš Zeman states that Czechia does not want to end up like France or Germany.
In answer to the German European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Günther Oettinger, who reproached to Czechia her refusal of the compulsory quotas of migrant relocation (we are talking about people who entered illegally in Europe and we know nothing about them except they are in a vast majority young Muslim men), President Miloš Zeman wanted to put it on the record, through his spokesperson:
“I say it once again to Mr. Commissioner by speaking clearly: we do not want any refugee in Czechia, whether on the basis of the compulsory quotas or through a so called voluntary mechanism for redistribution. Our country simply does not want to take any risk regarding terrorist attacks like the ones that took place recently in France and Germany. By welcoming migrants, one is breeding ground for such barbaric attacks”.
