The Black attacked Jon Fogg as he was heading home from work. He hit Fogg in the head with a brick multiple times, then stole his wallet, laptop and car. Fogg suffered six skull fractures, broken bones in both hands, and had eight teeth knocked out.

Baltimore City police are investigating an attack in the city’s popular Canton neighborhood in which a man was beaten with a brick and his car and belongings were stolen.

Officers were called around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday to the 3400 block of Foster Avenue, where a witness told police he was driving in the area and saw an orange bike in the road, so he stopped. The man said he saw a light-skinned black man with a mask run by, get into a car and drive off.

The man said he tried to follow the car but lost it. He then went back to the original scene and found a man who was staggering around with blood all over his face and clothes. The witness called 911 and tried to help the man, who said he had just been robbed.
The victim wandered away, but police were able to find him.

The victim, who hasn’t been identified, told investigators that he had parked his car and walked toward his home but had to go back to the car because he forgot his cellphone.

On his way back home, he said a man on an orange bike approached him and asked for a cigarette. When the victim said he didn’t smoke, the man on the bike implied he had a weapon.

Police said the victim gave the man his wallet, but the man threw him to the ground and also took his laptop bag and car keys before hitting the victim in the face with a landscaping brick. The assailant then stole the victim’s car.

“Some property was taken, but in the process the suspect took a solid object and began assaulting our victim with it, causing serious damage to the victim,” Baltimore police spokesman Det. Brandon Echevarria said.

The victim suffered gashes to his head and has two missing teeth. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment.

Police said because of his injuries, he couldn’t provide all of the details from the incident or give a description of the robber.

Residents in the area responded to the incident.

“It’s horrible,” one woman said. “You would want to feel safe in your own neighborhood.”

“It’s sad. It shouldn’t be like this around here. It’s nice around here. It’s really peaceful so it’s surprising me that it happened,” another woman said.

“I loved it here and I thought it was changing for the better, but I don’t know with Canton growing so much,” one resident said.

Detectives are currently searching for the assailant and the victim’s vehicle, which was described as a 2009 silver Toyota Prius with Maryland tag No. 5EST20.

“This type of act is not going to be tolerated by the Police Department. Our detectives are working really hard on this case and hopefully we’ll be able to have some answers for everyone,” Echevarria said.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call detectives at the Southeast District at 410-396-2422. Police said the robber is considered armed and dangerous, so those who think they’ve seen him shouldn’t approach him or the car and should instead call 911.
