I like Issac Arthur. His videos are usually informative and entertaining while being easy to understand for people who don’t have a degree in any hard sciences.
The major criticism I and many others who I know also watch him have is that he is overly optimistic in his videos (something he mentions in the intro of this one).
Here we see him trying to discuss the issue of privacy and surveillance in future civilizations.
We’re already at a point in most First World nations where we don’t really need to do that much. Virtually everything we could ever want is easy to access.
When we get to post scarcity, that will become even more of a thing. It will also come with a huge increase in private companies and governments to gather all of our information so that our cookbots can just instantly prepare whatever we’re craving before we even know we’re hungry.
This causes some obvious problems even now, so making the situation even worse is not the greatest.
While I do think it would be rad to drive a motorcycle with green lightning Tesla coils on it through a dystopic cyberpunk metropolis, I don’t think it’s worth the cost of my privacy.
