The EU played a central role in creating the conflict in the Ukraine, now they’re backing down as they witness the monster they’ve unleashed.

AP:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are urging both sides in eastern Ukraine to live up to cease-fire agreements amid a recent upswing in clashes between Russia-backed separatists and Ukrainian forces.

Merkel and Macron issued a joint statement Saturday urging combatants to observe the Minsk agreements aimed at defusing the conflict. Those provisions include the withdrawal of heavy weapons such as tanks and rocket launchers from the front-line area and an exchange of prisoners.

The two leaders also urged the return of Russian military officers to a joint coordination center that plays a role in supporting observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The US has agreed to arm the Ukraine. So we’ll see how that turns out.

There is no military solution to the problem. I agree with Germany and France on that. The only plausible solution is secession.

Right now, Western Ukraine is doing to Eastern Ukraine the exact thing that Kiev accused Moscow of doing to them. So there is zero room to make this into some kind of morality argument, and it has to simply be able a quick and peaceful resolution of the issue.

And the obvious one is the only one. And the West has the ability to force that.

The only reason to not do it is to agitate Russia further. It isn’t like the East of the Ukraine is super valuable for some larger geo-strategic goals. It is only good for harassment of Russia.
