Well, Germany.
I hope you feel really smug. I hope you feel really, really, really smug that you were able to help democracy in the Ukraine.
Because it’s going to change your lives forever. It’s going to change the lives of your grandchildren.
But a lot of people really like feeling smug.
So who am I to judge, really?
Germany is likely in recession now as external demand is weak, consumers remain cautious and domestic investment is held back by high borrowing costs, the Bundesbank said in a regular monthly report on Monday about Europe’s biggest economy.
Germany has struggled since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine pushed up energy costs, and its vast, industry-heavy economy is now in its fourth straight quarter of zero or negative growth, weighing on all of the euro zone.
“There is still no recovery for the German economy,” the Bundesbank said.
There won’t be, because there can’t be.
Not until the war is over. (Or until there is a revolution, and I’m not holding my breath. Germans are not Irish.)
And the war won’t be over until the US says it is, and the US won’t say it’s over until the US military and dollar system is decimated.
Then, at that point, the Germans are going to have to allow the Russians to come in. Russia is not going to allow the people who did this shit to run their own government for a long time.
“Output could decline again slightly in the first quarter of 2024. With the second consecutive decline in economic output, the German economy would be in a technical recession.”
This weak performance has raised questions about the sustainability of the German economic model and critics argue that much of its energy-reliant heavy industry is now being priced out of international markets, warranting an economic transformation.

If I was German, I’d apply for asylum in Russia. Russia would allow German defectors to build industry in the country, using the cheap energy.
