Richard Pan, the state senator behind this legislative turd, emigrated from Taiwan, which has been in the crosshairs of Communist China since they defied Mao and tried to retain their independence. He of all people should have a profound respect for our culture and norms – which includes the freedom to say offensive things.
Existing law prohibits a person, among others, from making or disseminating in any advertising device, or in any manner or means whatever, including over the Internet, any statement concerning real or personal property or services that is untrue or misleading, as specified.
This bill would require any person who operates a social media, as defined, Internet Web site with a physical presence in California to develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Web site. The bill would require the plan to include, among other things, a plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories, the utilization of fact-checkers to verify news stories, providing outreach to social media users, and placing a warning on a news story containing false information.
Along with being an insane restriction on speech, this would effectively make it impossible for anyone in the state to run a blog for financial reasons – obviously, they would tell you who you were required to hire as “fact-checkers,” or there would be no point.
And of course, this is the plan for the entire country.

As if it’s not enough that virtually all of the information most normies get is already filtered – whether it be at school, university, TV or film – even the internet will become a place where people are fed state-sanctioned propaganda.
