Jon Bieker died defending his wife from Black robbers.

One of four men suspected in the killing of a Shawnee gun store owner during a botched robbery attempt indicated Monday that he would plead guilty

Jon Bieker, 44, died after the Jan. 9 shooting at She’s a Pistol, 5725 Nieman Rd, a store catering to women gun owners. Three of the defendants were also wounded in the shootout.

Johnson County prosecutors have charged DeAnthony Wiley, Londro E. Patterson III, 20, Nicquan Midgyett, 20, and 18-year-old Hakeem Malik, with first-degree felony murder, attempted aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.

During a preliminary hearing Monday in Johnson County court, Wiley waived his right to the proceeding and indicated he would plead guilty at a later date. The hearing, held to determine if probable cause exists to take the defendants to trial, was continued for the remaining suspects.

The robbers are facing first degree felony murder.

“He wants to accept responsibility for his role in this offense,” said his attorney, Kate Zigtema. “We’re hopeful he can obtain a just sentence.”

A key piece of evidence is expected to be video recovered from the store’s surveillance system. That is slated to be shown Tuesday.

According to court documents, the footage shows suspects entering the store and pointing guns at Becky Bieker, who gets punched and knocked to the floor. The footage shows Jon Bieker appearing from a back room, firing a weapon. According to documents, three of the robbers fled while a remaining suspect fired on Bieker.

Becky Bieker vows to attend every court hearing and do everything she can to ensure they serve the maximum amount possible. Prosecutors have not said whether they will seek the death penalty.

“I will not be quiet,” she said. “I want them to serve the absolute maximum. If anything less, then I am going to be a thorn in the DA’s side.”
