A home invasion on the Eastern Shore left a 72-year-old man dead and another man injured Wednesday.
Maryland State Police said a man forced his way in to a house in the 27000 block of Pemberton Drive in Salisbury around 1 a.m. and assaulted two men inside.
Police said they found Donald G. Mariner, 72, of Salisbury, and a second man injured. Mariner later died at the scene.
The second victim, who police did not identify, told police he had been assaulted with a blunt object. He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment.
State police described the assailant as a black man who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
On Thursday, state police said they found Mariner’s truck abandoned on West Main Street near the VFW, about 2 miles from the crime scene. State police said the assailant may have been driving the truck between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Anyone who may have seen the black Ford F-150 in the area of Pemberton Drive or West Main Street is urged to call police at 410-749-3101, or call Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore at 410-548-1776.
